Is an Aviation Crisis Unfolding Between the Two Countries?

According to Middle East Eye, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority suspended the flight plans of other Turkish airlines to Damascus after Turkey refused to grant flight permits to Syrian airline companies.

The Syrian government reportedly demanded that Ankara allow Syrian airlines to operate reciprocal flights to Turkey as a solution to the crisis.

The Turkish side stated that Syrian airline companies were denied permits because their aircraft did not meet technical standards.

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, conveyed Turkey’s stance to his Syrian counterparts during recent meetings in Damascus and proposed a possible solution.

It has been learned that the crisis is ongoing and that the civil aviation authorities of both countries are continuing discussions to find potential resolutions.
